At Dumfries Young Curlers, our competitions page is your go-to source for all the latest information on upcoming club games and tournaments.

We host a range of exciting competitions throughout the season, catering to various age groups and skill levels. Below is a list of all our junior competitions played through out the season.

Junior League

This is an event for any club member who wishes to play in the club league with teams of 4 players. You enter into this competition individually and will be drawn into a team and play a round robin event with the top team winning the league.  The top 4 placed teams receive prizes at the end of the season. 

This competition normally results in approx 6-8 games throughout the season. 

Junior Pairs

This is an event for any club member to enter individually.  Teams of 2 players are drawn and played on a knockout basis.  If you win you move to the next round if you lose you are knocked out of the event.  We try to draw teams from two pools of players to balance the teams.  Pool 1 Experienced Players, Pool 2 Newer Club Members. 

Prizes are awarded for the top 4 teams at the end of the season. 

The Rolling Stones

This is an event for any club member to enter individually.  Teams of 4 are drawn and played on a round robin format.  On the completion of each end during the game the team rotates up one position (skip to lead & lead to second, second to third & third to skip). Ideal for new players joining the club to get experience of all positions! 

This competition will give you approx. 4-8 games throughout the season. Top 4 teams will generally receive a prize at the end of the season. 

Junior Doubles

This is an event for club members who have achieved a skill level of Blue or Higher or have played for 3/4 seasons.  The exception will be if any of the teams require substitutes for a game where they can ask any member from the Junior Club.  This is similar to Pairs but with some variations on the rules and placing of two stones before each end begins.  Full Rules can be found on the Scottish Curling Website.

 

Games are played at 6.30pm and generally finished by 8pm. If there is a need we sometime run 2 leagues to cater for the numbers. 

Speed Pairs

Speed Pairs is open to any junior who then must find an adult partner to play with.  Games are timed 55mins with time restrictions between shots.  This is a league with all teams getting 4-5 games and the top 4 progressing to the semi-finals. Great Fun, fast and furious. Prizes awarded to the top 4 teams.

Junior Singles

Individuals enter the singles event which runs over 2 days in the xmas holidays.  Members are drawn in to 4 groups playing round robin.  The competition then splits into a high road and a low road on a knockout basis for the 2nd day.  The rules will be 6 stones each with no strikes allowed until your 2nd last stone of each end.  Sweeping will only be allowed between the hog lines.  Players are not allowed to cross the far Hog Line unless it is to catch a strike from the opposition’s shot to protect the hacks and bumpers.  Normal scoring will take place.  Draw the button to find a winner if any games are tied.  All games will be 8ends. 

Dumfries Junior Sweepers Club

The sweepers club acts as a link between the coaching session and the main Dumfries Young Curlers ClubThe sweepers club runs on a Thursday from 4.30pm throughout the seasonThis session is coach led and prepares the younger juniors for the transition to the Dumfries Young Curlers which is purely competition / social based without coaches in attendance. 

Dumfries Junior Sweepers League 1&2

This is an event for any sweepers member who wishes to play in the club league with teams of 4 players. You enter into this competition individually and will be drawn into a team and play a round robin event with the top team winning the leagueAs the results progress the league splits into 2 to keep all teams interested and in a position to win a prize at the end of the season.

Dumfries Junior Sweepers Pairs

This is an event for any sweepers member to enter individually.  Teams of 2 players are drawn and played on a group or round robin basis depending on numbers.  A final is also played. 

The Coaches decided the teams from the entered players.

Junior Club Challenge

The junior Club organise challenge matches against other junior clubs with a variety of disciplines over the course of a nightCurling Ryder Cup format.

National Junior Club Challenge

The Junior Club enter the National Junior League played over one weekend usually early JanuaryThe junior club selects teams from members who are interested in representing the club at this league.  All members who are receiving funding from the club are expected o be available to play in this event if selected. 

National Junior Club Challenge

Funspiel U13&u15

The Junior Club enter a team into each age group and then select a team to represent the club. 

Club Championship

This is a local competition run by Dumfries Ice Bowl Curling Association (DIBCA). The club will enter a team or more teams depending on interestTeam skips or whole teams will be selected by the Junior club to represent in this event. 

DIBCA Wednesday Night League

Juniors can form their own teams and enter the leagueIt must be noted that when entering this league, you are agreeing to the ice rink terms and conditions of playNot turning up for games will result in the team losing the match and being charged for ice for both teams. 

DIBCA Pairs & DIBCA Mixed Pairs

Juniors can form their own teams and enter pairs events which are knockout competitionsIt must be noted that when entering this league, you are agreeing to the ice rink terms and conditions of playNot turning up for games will result in the team losing the match and being charged for ice for both teams. 

DIBCA Nithsdale Trophy

Curlers enter this event individually and are then drawn into teams and groups3 games usually guaranteed before knockout stageMixture of adult and junior curlers.

Quick Curling Events

Curlers can form their own teams and enter into this competition as and when it is promotedTeams of 3 with players rotating after each end is competedGames last 60mins and could include a themed element after the gameQuiz, Meal, Speaker, etc.
